Website Optimization Terms - continued
J. Meta Tag – this is a bit of HTML code
that is situated at the top of your
website page to tell the search engines specific information about
your website, it
looks like this:

There are important 3 parts to Meta Tags
1. The Title Tag: This is the most important tag contrary to
popular belief, most people
believe that the keyword tag is the most important, but it is
the least important tag.
Why? Because the title shows up within the search engines in
bold when you place
keywords within the tab and also in the top left hand corner of
your internet explorer
browser (blue bar), when you click on ANY website. See example…

2. The Description Tag: This is
the second most important tag because it shows up in
the Search engines in bold when you’ve place keywords
within it. See example…

3. Keyword Tag: This is still an
important tag, especially for the yahoo search engine
and lesser known engines but the others are more important.
Place keywords in here.

The whole meta tag is placed in-between the <head> and </head> tags at top
of website page.
The Meta Tag is one of the most important factors in website construction that
should be “Keyword” Optimized for maximum exposure of your website. The
Meta Tag can also be changed and altered to suit your needs at anytime.
All website pages are written in html code (some PHP and Java) so the search engines can read the information that is on the actual page. You do not have to write a whole webpage in this type of code. A simple website maker is called Microsoft FrontPage which is very easy to use, and this will automatically convert your information into the necessary html code so the search engines can read it. If you want to make a website I would personally start with this – it is very easy to use…similar to using Microsoft Word. Learn Direct teach courses online and at most colleges which are very good and cheap – you can also learn in your own time which is great !!!
How to see the html Code of any website you visit (see your meta tags)
Go onto the internet, and go to the Google Search Engine and type “channelling” into the Search Box, in the list of sites given find www.riselikeaphoenix.com/ which is situated somewhere in the top 30 sites.
If you look at the top of
your internet explorer browser (top left hand corner) you will see 6+ tabs that
look like this

You can look at the html code of any website, simply by clicking on View, then from the pull down menu, select Source.
K. Keyword Density - This is the amount of
keywords that you have within the
body of your website page. For example if I have 100 words on my
webpage (ie
body text) and I have 2 keywords on my web page. This would mean
that I
have a keyword density of 2%. Try not to have a keyword density
higher than
3% for any of your main keywords. Yahoo is more strict than Google
on this.
L. Indexing
- This is when one of your pages is picked up “indexed” by the search
engines. The ideal is to have all of your web pages indexed by the
search
engines. This can be hard to achieve sometimes, depending on the
search
engine (Google being the most difficult to get all website pages
in). But if you use an
“Internal linking Strategy” (see further notes below), then you will
increase your
chances of getting all of your pages indexed much more easily.
